If STALKER 2 wants to make a big return and honor the legacy of previous games, especially on consoles, it should look at what Bethesda has done with the modding scene over the past 14 years. In its absence, Bethesda took up the mantle as one of the most mod-friendly developers in the business, eventually making Skyrim and Fallout 4 the standard for mod support on PC and even consoles.
There is a real opportunity to make STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl the next big thing in the single-player shooter space however, GSC can’t hold back on one of the things that made STALKER a cult classic on PC in the first place: Skyrim-level mod support.įrom 2007 through 2009, the STALKER series became a flagship PC franchise that modding enthusiasts loved to tinker with before the series went dormant for over a decade. While the STALKER franchise remains somewhat niche, there is an air of excitement surrounding STALKER 2 as GSC can finally introduce another mainline entry to a gaming market that is substantially bigger than in 2007 when it debuted its first title.
For veteran fans of the franchise, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been a long time coming.
